The horse fence shown at the right incorporates no-climb mesh wire with 5"-6"x8 half-round posts and a top board of 2"x6"x10'.  Post separation is approximately 8 feet.  No-climb mesh prevents horse hooves from becoming trapped in the mesh and discourages predators.

Note that the posts are placed on the outside the horse area.  This is proper fence construction.  It is a feature that prevents the horses from injuring themselves on the fence, as well as bracing the top rail as horses lean on the fence. 

Wood fence options include:

Height - 48", 52", 60".  Sixty inches is recommended for stallion fencing.
Line posts - double-faced, squared, round, half-round, 3-4", 4-5", 5-6"
Brace and end posts full square or round.  5-6", 7-8"
Rail - three board, four board, top rail, 2"x6", 5/4"x6", 1"x6", #1, #2 prime, #2 wood
Mesh - diamond or non-climb
Wood selection and finish - southern yellow pine, oak, more.  Painting optional.
